March Madness

April 8, 2019

March has been a busy but good month—truly a “March Madness!”  We had our first visiting group of the year! I was nervous as it was the first group I was in charge of, and it was their first time coming to MEDA. For me, first impressions are important, and I want to properly represent MEDA.  I thank you for all of your prayers and support as God continues to prepare me and teach me to always trust in Him.

My mom always had a sign with the Fruits of the Spirit up in our home, so here is to my mother that taught me so well.

During the three nights that the group was here, I had a different seminary student who lives on campus give his testimony. The one that was the most interesting and captivating to me was the testimony from the student from Ecuador. He started by describing the atmosphere of his home and how he grew up in a home that was totally dysfunctional. His family was never able to eat together as a family because his parents would always end up fighting. His family was Catholic and strongly opposed to the Gospel, so much so, that when missionaries came to proclaim the Gospel in the small town where he lived, his father and uncles would beat-up the missionaries. It wasn’t until his uncle, who was the instigator of these attacks, had his eyes and heart opened by the Holy Spirit that things changed. The change in his Uncle’s life was incredible. He was disowned by his family for becoming a Christian; however, it was the completely different lifestyle that his uncle was now living that made the family start to ask questions. Before there was no real understanding of what true love and peace is, yet his uncle seemed to have it, and the family became interested in this new-found love and peace. A short while later, the rest of the family listened to the Gospel presented by the missionaries whom they had previously beaten-up. The entire family understood that only true love and peace come from Christ and trusting in His death on the cross for remission of sin.

Just a week ago, I took one of my friends and his wife to the bus station. They are moving to the island of Roatan where he will be the youth pastor at a small church. He is such an amazing example of Christ that I know the Lord is going to use him. He is going to one of the hardest places in Honduras to preach the Gospel. Due to the tourism on the island, Roatan has become known as the “party island,” and when the Gospel is preached in many churches there, it is watered down. Please pray for my friend and his wife as they begin their ministry on Roatan Island.

This month at MEDA, we also launched our new international programs. MEDA International Missions (MIM) is now the division that all groups, internships, and those seeking a gap year will fall under. My job is to manage these three programs within MIM. We are currently in the process of recruiting churches to send groups for next year, and we are also seeking young adults to serve in one of our many internship positions. I have also been busy serving in the church by helping with children’s church. It is such a blessing working with the children, and it amazes me to see how fast they are able to memorize Scripture. Watching them learn verses faster than I ever could has challenged me to keep up with them and memorize more Scripture and this time in Spanish!

Please pray that as I serve here in Honduras, I will grow spiritually. For over a month I have been blessed to be a part of a strong group of guys that desire to be more Christ-like. Right now, we are studying John, and this week we are in chapter three. Just having a refreshment of the pure Gospel has been convicting and has, yet again, exposed areas in my life that I need to work on. The Lord is so good! Thanks again for your prayers and support!

SPECIAL NOTE

If you know a pastor or a young person who would be interested in the programs of MIM, please let me know, or have them contact me.

  • Residency update – The lawyer here says the Honduras government should issue my residency in April and if not definitely in MAy. Please pray that it is issued in April!

  • Things to Pray for.

    • Pray for wisdom as I lead groups this summer.

    • Please pray that the Lord uses my life as a light unto the word.

    • Please pray about supporting me here in Honduras. I am still a few hundred dollars short according to the budget that my sending church has determined.
