February March and April.

April 18, 2020

The last two months, February and March, have been the most interesting, yet completely different months since I have been in Honduras. February was nice and busy. On the first of February, we had the first two interns in our new program, and things went very well. The Lord blessed the ministry in amazing ways. February was the last month of preparation until the groups started arriving. Our first group arrived on March fifth and left on the twelfth. They were from a church in Texas, and they helped with many different things. A few days before the group left, things began to change in Honduras. It became apparent that Honduras and other Central American countries were taking drastic measures to stop the s

During the week of March 15-21, all businesses except for hospitals, pharmacies, and specific grocery stores were closed. There were also nightly curfews enforced by local police and the military. During the day when the grocery stores were open, only a certain number of people were allowed inside so when one person left, another could enter.

During the week of March 22 – 28, things got a little more difficult. The government instituted a complete curfew; people could not leave their homes except to go to the hospital or to the grocery store if employed there. If people needed groceries, they could call a company like Uber Eats, and they would go to the grocery store and buy what was needed and bring it to their home. We have just started the third week. This week we are now allowed to leave our homes one time, but only for essentials. The day we can leave our home is determined by the number corresponding to the last number on our ID cards. Spread of COVID – 19 even to the point of shutting down the borders and closing all unnecessary businesses. At this point, MEDA made the decision to send our interns home. This proved to be a wise decision as the airport closed a few days later. During these last few weeks, things have been moving slowly, but God has used this time to teach me a lot. The verses that have helped me most are Matthew 6: 25-28 and Proverbs 16:9 “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.” It is so comforting to know that even if our plans change, it is God that establishes our steps!

Please pray that even though our contact with people is limited, we will have opportunities to share the Gospel, and pray that our lives will show to the people here the peace that God gives in troubled, uncertain times.

Last week I made the decision to come to the stats during the COVID-19 crisis. The US embassy was urging many people to leave, as well as my elders both in Honduras and from Grace Bible Church of Tampa thought it best that I return to the states for the time being. Upon return and being exposed to the virus during my travels, I was able to be tested, and thankfully the test was negative. I am currently doing all that I can to serve MEDA during this time. Please pray for me and those still in Honduras as everyone is being affected at this time.
