The New Year in Honduras–2019!

This year has started off to be a great one, and it looks like it is going to also be a busy one. Christmas and the New Year’s holiday were definitely different as I spent them away from my family, but it is true that when one is in the company of other believers, it is comforting. Here in Honduras, Christmas starts on the 24th about 7:00 p.m. and ends around 2:00 a.m. Families open their homes for the night, and people migrate from house to house drinking coffee and eating the traditional Christmas food, tamales. On Christmas Eve, the Cuban couple (I mentioned them in my last post) and I started by attending our church Christmas program at 6:00 p.m. From there we visited three other homes and did not make it back home until 2:30 a.m. For my first Christmas away from family, it was bittersweet. Bitter because I was not with family, but sweet because I can see the Lord growing and molding me by guiding me in the direction He wants me to go. On New Year’s Eve, the Cuban family and I went to a family’s home for dinner and then at midnight, we shot off fireworks. That night we also ended up going to another home where all the youth of the church met to play games and fellowship until 3:00 in the morning.

Since then, I have been working on the new group and intern program for MEDA which will soon be implemented. I believe this year we will have over ten groups signed up for the summer, and there are more groups that still have interest in coming. This year there will be between fifteen and twenty new students who will attend the seminary. Two of the students are from other countries and will be staying with me for the duration of their studies. I am looking forward to having company in my home and living with people who just speak Spanish. The more I can get away from using English the better and better my Spanish gets. I am so thankful for how much I have learned and continue to learn.

This week a man from the church lost his battle with cancer. He was the father of one of my friends here. It was encouraging to see how even though the family grieved over their loss, they kept the focus on Christ. At the graveside service after everyone had paid their respects, there came a harmony of soft voices singing “In Christ alone my hope is found…”

Please pray for…

The family whose father went home to be with the Lord.

My residency – Update, everything is going well with my residency, and so far there have not been any issues. The lawyer said that my documents are in processing, and I should be issued my residency card in March or April!

Financial support – the Lord will supply the funds necessary for my support.

That I will continue to be a servant of the Lord and display Christ in the way that I live.
